San Francisco 49ers To Win Super Bowl LX (+1400)
The Philadelphia Eagles were just crowned Super Bowl Champions, as they defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. While the attention now is mainly going to shift to college basketball and baseball, it is never too early to look at some of the wagers we have available to us for the 2025-26 season. There isn’t much available right now over at BetMGM, but you have been able to bet on who will win next year’s championship for a while now, and there are a couple teams that I have thrown a bit of coin on.
The first team that I bet to win Super Bowl LX also plays there for their home games, and that is the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium. While the AFC is absolutely loaded, with Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Justin Herbert and so on, the NFC to me is a much more wide open contest. The Eagles are the clear frontrunner after that performance, but outside of them, I see it as a free for all. Everyone is writing off the 49ers after going 6-11 this past season, but I feel like that is a mistake.
Sure, they have some key players they might lose, but one constant is going to remain. Head coach Kyle Shanahan is still there, and he is one of the best coaches in the conference. He’s won at least 12 games in four of his five previous seasons, with a 62-33 record over that span. All four of those teams won at least two postseason games, and two of them made the Super Bowl. Let’s also not forget, Shanahan made the Super Bowl as the offensive coordinator in Atlanta, leading Matt Ryan and the Falcons to the big game in 2016. So, he has coached in at least the NFC Championship in five of the last nine seasons.
Not only is he back, but he’ll get his old defensive coordinator back in Robert Saleh. He left to be the head coach of the New York Jets a few years ago, but ultimately didn’t work out, and now he is back with his buddy Shanahan in San Francisco. The 49ers defense took a serious step back in 2024, but with Saleh back, I think they have a chance to get back to being an elite unit. Much like Vic Fangio on the Eagles, who was fired as the head coach of the Denver Broncos, some guys are just meant to be coordinators. There is no question that Fangio is one of the best in the league as a DC, but just not a head coach. Saleh could be much the same.
As I mentioned previously, some think the talent on this team won’t be there, but I beg to differ. Even in a lost season like this, the 49ers ranked as a top-10 offense in DVOA, and just outside the top-10 on defense. They were 2-6 in one-score games, and if they had better luck, they could have easily been 10-7 and made the playoffs. In fact, Philadelphia had a pretty similar 2023 season, albeit enough for them to make the playoffs to lose to Tampa Bay.
The Eagles were +2200 to win the Super Bowl before this past season, and that is right around where the 49ers opened. They have already moved from 20/1 to 14/1 since last week, as people are seeing the same value I am. They are nearly double the price of the Detroit Lions, who I think take a step back after losing their play callers. This San Francisco team is too well-coached to have another stinker of a season, and I think they have a good shot to be right back in the NFC Championship come next season to put us in great position.
