Elizabeth Chambers allegedly learned of her ex-husband Armie Hammer’s infidelity prior to filing for divorce, Vanity Fair reports.

In a new expose about the actor and the troubling allegations made against him, the publication confirms that a friend close to Chambers said that Hammer confessed to cheating on one occasion shortly after the birth of their son, Ford, in 2017.

Per E! News, at the time, he was apologetic and they began couples therapy to save their decade-long marriage.

However, the same friend told VF that years later, Chambers found evidence that he was having an affair with a co-star.

While Chambers had been very forgiving of the past infidelity, the publication notes the final straw came when Hammer left his family in the Grand Cayman Islands amidst the pandemic where everyone was quarantining together.

"The Hammers had been in expensive family therapy, but, to Elizabeth, the indiscretions — and more notably his decision to flee the family during a global pandemic — were the final straw," the publication noted. "When Armie touched down in the U.S., he mistakenly sent a raunchy text message meant for someone else to his estranged spouse. Elizabeth filed for divorce shortly after."

In September, Hammer told British GQ that quarantine was a “very complicated, intense situation, with big personalities all locked in a little tiny place.”

“I don’t think I handled it very well. I think, to be quite frank, I came very close to completely losing my mind,” he added

The couple announced their split on July 10, 2020.

In January 2021, the 34-year-old was plagued by a much darker scandal after being accused of sending scandalous messages about his fantasies to other women. Multiple women who claim to have been in a relationship with Hammer have since spoken out accusing him of emotional abuse, manipulation, and violence.

While he denied the claims in a statement to E! News, his career took a blow as he stepped down from several high-profile projects he was working on. He was also dropped by his talent agency WME.

In a statement to VF, Hammer’s lawyer, Andrew Brettler, said: “All interactions between Mr. Hammer and his former partners were consensual. They were fully discussed, agreed upon in advance with his partners, and mutually participatory. The stories perpetuated on social media were designed to be salacious in an effort to harm Mr. Hammer, but that does not make them true."

Sources told VF that Chambers felt "blindsided left, right, and center” and humiliated by Hammer’s actions.

The source noted she has been staying strong for their kids, Ford and Harper, who have yet to be told about their parents split.

"Elizabeth has told friends that while she is fearful herself, she is projecting strength for the kids and trying to find occasional humor in the darkness,” the report notes.

Per VF, Chambers did not want to be interviewed for the expose.

However, she seemingly acknowledged the split on February 1 on Instagram writing: “For weeks, I've been trying to process everything that has transpired. I am shocked, heartbroken, and devastated. Heartbreak aside, I am listening, and will continue to listen and educate myself on these delicate matters. I didn't realize how much I didn't know. I support any victim of assault or abuse and urge anyone who has experienced this pain to seek the help she or he needs to heal."
