McDonald’s has announced they will be raising hourly wages for more than 36,500 employees at McDonald’s-owned restaurants by an average of 10 percent.
The increases, which have already begun, will continue to be rolled out over the next several months and include raising entry level wages to at least $11 - $17 an hour, and the starting range for shift managers to at least $15 - $20 an hour based on restaurant location.
The popular fast food chain also stated that they are looking to hire 10,000 new employees over the next three months as dining rooms reopen for the summer season.
“Our first value is taking care of our people, and today we are rewarding our hardworking employees in McDonald-owned restaurants for serving our communities,” Joe Erlinger, President McDonald’s USA said in a statement. “These actions further our commitment to offering one of the leading pay and benefits packages in the industry.”
Based on this trajectory of the current marketplace, McDonald’s expects the average hourly wage for its company-owned restaurants to increase to $15 an hour in a phased, market-by-market approach.
Some restaurants have, or will, reach an average hourly wage of $15 an hour in 2021, and average hourly wages are expected to reach $15 an hour by 2024.
Along with the wage increases, McDonald’s also announced a competitive benefits package offered to eligible employees in McDonald’s-owned restaurants.
Benefits include: paid time off, access to education, 401K plans, reward programs with cash incentives, free meals, and employee assistance with housing, childcare, counseling, legal referrals and more.
