Minutes before the Seahawks traded DK Metcalf to the Steelers for a 2025 second round pick, the Rams officially announced the signing of Jets free agent wide receiver Davante Adams.
If bringing in a big name wide receiver was at the top of your to do list as a Patriots fan this offseason, it appears that task will be getting harder and harder to complete by the hour.
Shortly before the news of Adams signing with Los Angeles, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported that the 32-year-old’s contract is a two-year deal worth $46 million, with $26 million fully guaranteed.
With Adams officially being released by the Jets earlier this month, there was a sentiment among some local media that Adams was a “reasonable option” for the Patriots to sign as they look to rebuild their offense around 22-year-old Drake Maye this offseason.
But with Adams now off the board and Metcalf now calling Pittsburgh home, Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf must now pivot towards the likes of Chris Godwin and Cooper Kupp, as New England’s wide receiver room remains in dire need of a proven veteran presence - or two.
Through 11 seasons with the Packers, Raiders and Jets, Adams has amassed 11,844 receiving yards, 957 receptions and 103 touchdowns. He’s a three-time First-team All-Pro selection, six-time Pro Bowler, and has led the NFL in receiving touchdowns twice.
In 14 games last season between New York and Vegas, Adams hauled in 85 balls for 1,063 yards and 8 touchdowns. Averaging 12.5 yards per catch and with a 71-yard touchdown on his 2024 resume, the Fresno State-product showed that big-play-potential was still in his repertoire despite playing in two of the least explosive offenses in the league.

That exact skillset is something the Patriots lacked in a major way last season. And as of Sunday night, with Adams on his way to Los Angeles, it’s still lacking.
