Discount bus carrier offers new Jersey Shore route

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A discount bus service has added a route shuttling travelers between the Philadelphia area and the Jersey Shore.

OurBus co-founder Axel Hellman said he knew he wanted to add a Jersey Shore route to his company's bus lines. "This is a huge interest in travel to the Jersey Shore," he said.

Last week, they launched a service that takes travelers from King of Prussia, Center City and South Philadelphia to a rest stop near the shore. From there, he said people connect with a waiting van to take them to their designated shore town.

"It's a hub and spoke network," Hellman explained. "It's pretty common in transportation. It just hasn't been applied in this region."

But Hellman said they had to get creative in order to find the vehicles to make the rides work.

"Part of the route to Wildwood, we're using a bus company that does shuttles for a college," he said. "Basically, they had these buses sitting around all summer doing nothing during peak tourism season."

According to Hellman, the buses go to several different casinos in Atlantic City, Margate, Ventnor City, Ocean City, Wildwood and Sea Isle City.

The new OurBus shore route runs four days a week and it's seasonal. "It's gonna run all summer," said Hellman. "Hopefully it'll be extended into maybe the warm part of September if it does well and it's gonna be back next year."

Reservations must be made in advance and can be made through the OurBus website or app.

Shore businesses are hoping you'll spend all your money there.
