PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — What characteristics define a good doctor? and what should you be looking for as you make your choice? It is a question that has been studied extensively by consumers and health care providers.
A great starting point is looking at a doctor's education and experience. Another time-tested tool is asking people you trust. Other important things to assess are availability, ease of scheduling appointments and the amount of time the doctor shares with you at your appointment.
Two other key things to look for are emotional intelligence and flexibility. You may not be able to evaluate this until you have had an appointment or two.
Take your time choosing your doctor—and do not hesitate to move on if your needs are not met.
