The following article may contain spoilers for the first part of the finale of 'The Bachelor.'
"The Bachelor" kicked off its two-night finale on Monday.
As expected, night one brought plenty of drama and awkward moments as the final two contestants, Hannah Ann Sluss and Madison Prewett, met Peter Weber’s family in Australia. His family's opinions played a huge role in his love life for the remainder of the hour.
Here are six dramatic moments you missed on last night's shocking episode.
Hannah Ann Loves Peter
Hannah Ann made a great impression on the Weber family. They were extra excited to meet her and immediately sold on her. Peter explained that he gave Hannah Ann, who Peter’s father simply called “Hannah” in a shocking twist, the first impression rose at the kickstart of the season.
During her heart-to-heart with Peter’s mother, Barb, she reiterated that she “loves” her son several times, and Barb was smitten! She went to bat for Hannah Ann in an attempt to convince Peter that “she’s the one.” Peter’s father also seemed to be on #TeamHannah, but Peter was conflicted telling him, "I just don't know how I'm going to do this."
Madison Is a Fan-Favorite but not a Weber Family Favorite
Prior to Madison’s family visit, the two had a long chat about the “ultimatum” she gave Peter before Fantasy Suites. She explained that she doesn’t think it was an ultimatum as much as a reflection of her beliefs and what she expected from a man.
If you thought we were done talking about Madison’s decision to save herself until marriage, you were sorely mistaken. It became the topic of Madison’s family visit and the basis for why the Weber family doesn’t believe she’s a good fit for their son.
Barb doesn’t think Madison’s faith-based values align with Peter’s chaotic lifestyle and beliefs. She emphasizes that she doesn’t want anyone to change her son.
This puts a lot into perspective for Madison, who begins to look at the relationship outside of the series and realizes it probably won't work.
Bring Her Home to Us
Bachelor Nation finally found out who Barb was referring to in the emotional teaser that has been played at the end of each episode for weeks. Her tearful “bring her home” wasn’t about Madison (whom she met previously since during the first hometown date) as some fans thought, nor was it about Peter’s ex, Hannah B.
This whole time, Barb was getting emotional about Hannah Ann. Fans thought the reveal fell flat and turned a hyped up moment into one of the most annoying on the show. Even Peter told his mom to “stop” and seemed distraught and broken up about how his family reacted to Madison.
Madison Walks Away
With a heavy heart, Madison “surrenders” and walks away from Peter despite falling madly in love with him. She tells him that they’re on two different paths and encourages him to find what he’s really looking for. "I don't know that we're the best for each other," she says. Peter finds himself conflicted about his final choice.
Hannah Ann Is Left in the Dark
Hannah Ann remains hopeful that Peter will consciously choose her and plans a cute date complete with a body-con dress. Peter shows up wearing a t-shirt and zip-up hoodie and is visibly upset.
It’s awkward to watch considering that she’s the only contestant left in the fight but doesn’t know it. Peter also doesn’t tell her that Madison left instead informing her that his heart is being “pulled in two directions.” Hannah Ann isn’t pleased by that because she feels like she’s given this relationship her all and is more confident of this than anything in her life and yet. Peter has his doubts and he has a lot of them, if we’re being honest.
Flies and Baby Kangaroos
While the setting for the final two dates could have been more romantic – seeing Madison and Peter constantly swat away flies took away from the gravity of their breakup. However, his date with Hannah Ann made up for it as the two got to cuddle with and feed baby kangaroos!
Host Chris Harrison teased that we haven't seen the last of Madison as she regrets her decision and likely returns. He also added that if you think you know what's about to happen, you have no idea. The second part of the finale continues tonight on ABC at 8:00 p.m. EST.
