Do you remember what you were doing 25 years ago today? For Big Show co-host Leroy Butler, he was out helping the Green Bay Packers make life miserable for Drew Bledsoe and the rest of the New England Patriots offense.
It's hard to believe it's been a quarter century since the Packers ended 30 years of misery in a 35-21 Super Bowl XXXI victory, but that day changed so much in terms of Wisconsin sports. Not just for the players on the field like Leroy, Brett Favre, Reggie White, Desmond Howard, Antonio Freeman, Craig Newsome and others, but for the fans who had waited so long for the Pack to be back. Our producer Adam Roberts was just three years old when the two teams met at the Louisiana Superdome, but he said all the adults around him were going crazy during the Howard kick return touchdown.
This afternoon on The Wendy's Big Show, Sparky, Leroy, and Gary spent the final hour of the show reliving their own memories of that day, with Leroy sharing some personal anecdotes from before the game in his New Orleans hotel room with Edgar Bennett and during the game as he soaked in the vastness of the moment.
We also threw open the phone lines and Twitter to hear from listeners' memories of that day. All around, it's safe to say January 26th, 1997 is a day which will be remembered fondly for both Packers fans and Wisconsin sports fans for a long, long time to come.
