Shoe-shiner Albert Lexie has left behind some very big shoes to fill after donating hundreds of thousands of dollars to a children’s hospital.
Albert had worked at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's Children's Hospital for more than 30 years. When he recently passed away, it turned out he left behind all of the tip money he had saved from his decades on the job - totaling $202,000. He only ever charged three dollars for each pair of shoes - making a yearly salary of just $10,000. But the massive tip reserve will now go to helping to treat local uninsured children.
The hospital says Albert is the perfect example of how small acts of kindness can go on to make a very big difference in people’s lives.
