(WCBS 880) -- The world's most expensive bottle of whisky has sold for more than $1 million at an auction in Scotland.
The Macallan Valerio Adami was distilled in 1926 and bottled in 1986. It sold Wednesday for a world-record breaking price of $1,101,729.
Only 12 bottles were produced at the time. They feature a label designed by Adami, an Italian pop artist. Experts have described it as “The Holy Grail of Whisky."
It is unknown how many bottles still exist in the world. But according to a press release, another bottle of the rare whisky is rumored to have been destroyed in an earthquake in Japan in 2011. It is believed that at least another one has been opened and consumed.
The identity of the buyer has not been revealed.
