Tuesday marked the one-year anniversary of the JR SportBrief show on CBS Sports Radio. During the show, JR spent time reflecting on the last year, and thanking loyal listeners and callers from across the country.
Here's some of what JR said:
"I wanted to take some time here at the top of this hour and say it again: thank you. And I don't think that's a word that we here a lot, when it comes down to media. I don't think that's a word that we hear a lot, when it comes down to the people who actually matter -- and that's you. You at work, you in your car, you in your truck, you patrolling, you in your office... This is as real as it gets. Something that you don't always get is a damn thank you.
"We've got a lot of people who just pop up on the radio, pop up on television, and think they got there by accident. And think that they're so damn good at what they do, that there's nothing that stops them, that they're some type of force that can't be moved. That's not me -- I'm here with the damn force. I'm a regular dude, here on the radio, having a good time with you, and that's what I enjoy.
"So, there is no JR SportBrief here on CBS Sports Radio without everyone single one of you, because I'm someone who's listened to sports radio since sports radio started to exist. This is something that I grew up with. This is a business and an industry that I grew up in... I didn't start off in a small market. I created my own thing, and I appreciate that. I come from the internet. I didn't go to a fancy school to study journalism. I studied marketing in school -- I'm an idea person. I put myself on the internet, in college, in New York, in the Bronx, in my childhood home and started talking about sports. And here I am with you, on a national show..."
