Before the Los Angeles Dodgers and manager Dave Roberts agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension in late March, he didn't shy away from the team's sky-high expectations for the 2022 season. During an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show, Roberts all but guaranteed a World Series title this fall, telling the listening audience to "put it on record."
Although it's become unusual for teams to make such bold or straightforward predictions, Robert's level of confidence is justified. The juggernaut Dodgers have a league-high 19-percent chance to capture the Commissioner's Trophy, according to FiveThirtyEight projections, and a 70-percent chance to win the NL West division for a ninth time since 2013. A title would also satisfy any fans who consider their 2020 title -- won in a truncated season -- as illegitimate.
"A year ago, we thought that they were a superteam and they looked superb. But, as always, the greatness of baseball is, one team will surprise you," MLB Network host Adnan Virk told The DA Show on Thursday. "I think the Dodgers, and will they get back to the winner's circle, is interesting to me. Because I'm not one to put an asterisk, but there are some who say, 'Listen, they won that World Series, first time since '88, in the midst of a 60-game COVID season'... I'm going to go Dodgers and Blue Jays [in World Series], take Dodgers in six."
