Kawhi Leonard isn't going to play next season, says Jared Greenberg

The consensus around the NBA is that superstar free agent Kawhi Leonard, who underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL back in July, will re-sign with the Los Angeles Clippers this offseason and eventually sign a new max contract.

But one of the most mysterious players in the league has yet to commit to this decision -- he's reportedly interested in listening to other team's offers -- and NBA TV host Jared Greenberg can't wrap his head around Leonard's plan.

"It's so frustrating what's going on with Kawhi Leonard right now," Greenberg told The DA Show on Thursday. "He's not going to play next year. He had ACL surgery in July, and that's not even factoring in that this dude takes his time coming back from injuries. He's the most cautious player in the history of the NBA when it comes to coming back from injuries... You think this dude is playing in the NBA next year?...

"If he signs a one-plus-one -- which means a two-year contract with the second year being an option -- by the end of next season, he'll have been on the Clippers for three years. Thus he can sign a massive $230 something million contract, which makes sense. But he's going to do that after not playing next season. So, you had all this time to think about this. Why do you continue to hold your team's feet to the fire like this? I don't get it."

Leonard, a two-time Finals MVP who suffered the right knee injury against the Utah Jazz in Game 4 of the West semifinals in June, averaged a team-high 24.8 points with 6.5 rebounds and 5.2 assists in 52 regular season games.

The 30-year-old also averaged 30.4 points in 11 playoff games, and according to ESPN Stats & Info, Leonard became just the second player in NBA history to average 30 points and 60-percent shooting through his first six games of a postseason, joining Hall of Fame legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
