The return of crowds packed inside arenas nationwide has undoubtedly been a sight for sore eyes, but the return of inappropriate and intolerable behavior from fans hasn't.
On Thursday, three NBA teams -- the Philadelphia 76ers, New York Knicks, and Utah Jazz -- banned fans for their unruly behavior directed toward players. The series of incidents, which occurred on Wednesday, included a Sixers fan throwing popcorn on Washington Wizards star Russell Westbrook, a Knicks fan spitting on Atlanta Hawks phenom Trae Young, and a group of Jazz fans heckling Memphis Grizzlies' Ja Morant with crude and racist remarks.
During Thursday's edition of the JR SportBrief show, JR discussed the NBA's recent string of poor fan behavior.
"Sometimes, you just need to be careful. Just treat people with common decency and respect," JR said. "Don't throw food at Russell Westbrook when you wouldn't do it at the playground. Don't spit on Trae Young if you wouldn't spit on the guy at the supermarket. The athletes don't owe anybody anything extra. You know what the fans and the media owe the athletes? A little bit more respect. The athletes don't owe them, us, you, me, anybody, any more than what they already do.
"And the leagues? They need to do better, in regard to the media and the fans. Because they make money, because they're celebrities, people think they can treat them any type of way. Wrong. They don't deserve anything more than what they get but respect."
