In early November, Bleacher Report created an animated video that simulates an epic one-on-one battle between prime Larry Bird and prime Kevin Durant. Why? Well, because fans are captivated by hypothetical arguments involving NBA legends, and questions that can't truly be answered.
But, as long as questions remain, the debates and conversations will follow. So, who would win in a one-on-one matchup: prime Bird or prime Durant? Boston Globe columnist and author Dan Shaughnessy shared his thoughts during Wednesday's edition of the Tiki and Tierney show.
"I love them both. And Durant, I love more than most of the modern players. He's just great," Shaughnessy said. "He's doing the mid-range game now, and he translates into any era. Just unstoppable. Larry would've had a hard time stopping him if they played one-on-one because he's so damn tall. Bird, on the other hand, had farm boy strength, and he could back you in a little bit.
"His confidence was extraordinary. And he was maybe more confident than he should've been, and I think that would've carried him a long way. This is a guy who walked into the first three-point contest and said, 'Which one of you guys is going to come in second?' And then he went out there and never took off his warmup jacket and started banking them just for laughs..."
