Tiki & Tierney: Did Colts plan to ban Philly media from asking Wentz questions?

Carson Wentz has a new team, and he'll no longer field questions about the dramatic breakup with his old one.

That's the message some Philadelphia-based reporters and fans were led to believe just a day ago.

Moments after the Colts and Eagles officially announced the blockbuster trade involving Wentz on Wednesday afternoon, Philadelphia Inquirer writer Les Bowen reported that Philly media members weren't going to be allowed to ask the 28-year-old quarterback questions during Indianapolis' introductory press conference. But, perhaps to Wentz' dismay, a few Eagles reporters -- including Bowen -- were ultimately able to chat with him via Zoom on Thursday.

During Thursday's show, Tiki and Tierney gave their thoughts on Wentz' presser, and whether the reported Philly media ban attempt was false from the beginning, or simply not enforced due to the news it generated.

"I can't imagine that [Wentz] would put that kind of restriction on media, because that gets passed around," Tiki said. "Then all of the sudden, it doesn't matter whether you're in Philly or wherever you're playing. Media starts to view you a certain way because their colleagues in other cities are saying, 'Can you believe what this kid did? Who the hell does he think he is?' type of thing.

"I'm sure this had to come from the Colts. And it probably wasn't a hard directive, like, 'You're not asking any questions at all.' It was probably, 'Let's give the Indianapolis media a chance to meet their new quarterback.' So, I don't know. I need to hear or read or see what exactly was said to the Philadelphia media members. Or, were they just not chosen, which is a completely different subject, because people at pressers do that all the time. They selectively choose who they want to answer questions from."

Tierney took things a step further.

"To me, first of all, it goes against what this country's about, number one," Tierney said. "But from a football point of view, what would really be disconcerting to me... It's one thing if the Colts initiated this and didn't run it by Carson Wentz, which I can't imagine, then you completely exonerate Carson Wentz. If they came up with the concept and they ran it by Wentz and he co-signed it, I really wouldn't like it.

"But if Carson Wentz is the one who went to them and precluded Philadelphia reporters from doing their job, to me, that gives me a strong clue that he will never get back to being the superstar we thought he was. Because he's got a small mind at that point, pertaining to sports."
