Baker Mayfield has played his final game for the Cleveland Browns, and now the organization has no choice but to honor his trade request this offseason. But parting ways with the fourth-year starter won't be a simple task. Over the past week, four quarterback-needy teams filled their vacancies under center, which means that Mayfield's market is razor thin. There isn't a high demand.
To make the situation even trickier, the Browns have reportedly asked for a first-round pick in exchange for Mayfield. Considering the trade market and his disappointing 2021 statistics, it's highly unlikely that any potential suitor meets Cleveland's steep asking price. So, where will the former first-overall pick play in 2022? Are the Seattle Seahawks a realistic landing spot?
"I'm buying them. To me, this seems like the best fit. I'm just not sure they're into Baker Mayfield," Andrew Perloff said during the Maggie and Perloff show on Tuesday. "Are they really going to go from Russell Wilson, who they forced to play conservatively, to Mayfield, who might not like that conservative style of football? I don't know. It just doesn't seem like a personality fit."
"I actually like this fit a lot. Pete Carroll, as the former college coach, may sort of get Mayfield's whole M.O. thing," Gray said. "[Mayfield] has this college feel to him, although he's been a pro for the last four years... The problem is, what if you do great with Mayfield? Do you have to pay him?... If they're not doing the full teardown, I won't believe that they're into Drew Lock until I'm actually, physically watching Lock under center in Week 1."
