
As a comedian, you tend to take most things lightly. However, when that moment hits where it’s as real as it can get, and you just need a minute is exactly what happened to Tiffany Haddish while on the set of Kids Say The Darndest Things.

As Haddish was discussing how “honored” she was to be nominated for a GRAMMY with two little Black girls (Lauren and Ava), her team surprised her with the news that she actually won. The Girls Trip star was first nominated for Best Spoken Word Album in 2018 for the audiobook, The Last Black Unicorn. At the 2021 GRAMMY Awards, she took home the win for Best Comedy Album for Black Mitzvah, her first GRAMMY. This momentous occasion also makes Haddish the first Black woman to win the title since Whoopi Goldberg in 1985 with her album, Whoopi Goldberg - Original Broadway Show Recording. Not to mention Haddish was the only female comedian nominated this year, beating out Patton Oswalt, Bill Burr, Jim Gaffigan and Jerry Seinfield.
The moment drove Tiffany to tears. In a statement, Haddish expressed how one of the girls, Ava, wants to be President when she gets older, so she took that time “to teach and share [her] feelings.” The actress began, “much like when you’re on your journey to become President, it’s a lot of bumpy roads that you cross, right? And it’s a lot of times when you [question yourself]. Am I doing the right thing? Is this good enough? Am I good enough? Am I strong enough to do this job? [...] And against all odds, you say ‘you know what, Imma put my best foot forward and I’m gonna give the world the best that I got...’” Check out the full, heartwarming statement above.
