Following CDC guidance on Thursday that masks are not required indoors for those who are fully vaccinated, Trader Joe's has emerged as one of the first retailers to announce that it is updating its mask policy to mesh with the revised CDC guidance.
"We encourage customers to follow the guidance of health officials, including, as appropriate, CDC guidelines that advise customers who are fully vaccinated are not required to wear masks while shopping," Trader Joe's wrote on its COVID-19 page that was updated Friday.
So far, Trader Joe's is on its own: Target, Walmart, CVS and Walgreens have said they are keeping an eye on CDC guidance, but they have yet to make any changes.

"Target will continue to require all of our coronavirus safety measures in all stores, including masks and social distancing, while we review updated guidance from the CDC and re-evaluate the guidance we offer our team and guests," Target spokesperson Brian Harper-Tibaldo said in a statement to USA TODAY.
WALGREENS
Walgreens spokesperson Emily Hartwig-Mekstan said in a statement, "As a destination for COVID vaccine and testing we have decided to keep our current face covering policy in place for the time being. The safety of our team members and customers is our top priority and will continue to guide our decision process.”
WALMART
Walmart said in a statement, "We are constantly evaluating our COVID-related health and safety protocols, including state executive orders and other mandate changes. We will continue to do so, keeping CDC guidance and local COVID statistics in mind.”
