Is it us or have there been a bit more contestant conundrums on “Wheel of Fortune” lately?

The puzzle answer was "RENTING A PEDAL BOAT," with the E, L, and T missing. In a first attempt, a contestant already incorrectly answered Renting a Paddle Boat. While it was a sound guess, it was over the letter count and didn't align with the letters that were already revealed.
The next contestant, Sean, bought two Es, but then answered, again, “Renting a Paddle Boat.”
Even if you didn't know the puzzle answer, there aren't many letters that could logically fill in the puzzle, however, the following contestant asked for an "M," which would make the puzzle read "A padem boat."
The next contestant took the plunge and guessed a "W," which, again, would make the puzzle read: "A padew boat." Not a thing.
Finally, Sean took another crack and got it right. But by then, Twitter fans were already furiously searching for suitably shocked GIFs.
One fan shared a GIF of Steve Harvey just shaking his head with the caption: “#WheelOfFortune speechless— pedaw boat, pedam boat? Paddle pedal? Wth?”
“Another cringe-worthy night on #WheelOfFortune!” exclaimed another.
And to answer our opening question, it’s not just us. Another Twitter fan lamented, “These are becoming far too common.”
Last week, venerated host Pat Sajak – after hearing of all the shocked comments about another similar gaffe – humbly asked fans to “have a little heart” when it comes to judging the contestants.
“Good-natured laughter is one thing. Heck, they laughed at themselves. But, hey, cut them some slack. Unless you’re there, you have no idea how different it is in the studio," he told fans.
