Discussing her desire to potentially play the Pop star back in 2022, Millie said, “I want to play a real person and I think for me, [it’s] Britney,” during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show to promote Netflix film, Enola Holmes 2.
Brown, who also rose to huge fame as a child, continued: “I think her story, first of all, resonates with me. Just growing up in the public eye watching her videos, watching interviews of how when she was younger… I feel like I could tell her story in the right way – and hers only.”
While Spears wasn’t about it back then, mentioning, “I hear about people wanting to do movies about my life … dude I’m not dead !!!,” in one of her long-winded IG captions that same year. Wicked director Jon M. Chu has recently reinstalled hope and resuscitated the idea of a Brit biopic.
With fan-castings varying from Sabrina Carpenter to Sydney Sweeney, and Emma Roberts' throwing her own name in the ring, Millie’s recent hair transformation, and Y2K-fashion shoots shared on IG have swayed many on the internet to believe the actress is aiming to secure her bid as the Princess of Pop in the upcoming big-screen biopic. Which Chu assures us he's in the very beginning stages, meaning the search for the leading starlet is still a ways away.
Asked by both Entertainment Tonight and Access Hollywood about the possibility of portraying Britney during red carpet interviews at the premiere of her new movie, The Electric State, Millie told Access Hollywood, “I mean, she is an absolute icon. I would love nothing more than to be a part of her story. But that’s her story, and I am in full support of her bringing her story to life how she wants to." Also similarly telling ET, “Nothing would make me happier than to be able to play such an iconic, beautiful person, so you know, I leave that to the Gods.”
While we’ll have to wait and see who snags the role, here’s what we do know about the upcoming film. After gaining the rights to, The Woman in Me, Universal Pictures announced the Spears’ memoir would be the basis for a new biopic, with Jon M. Chu (Wicked, Crazy Rich Asians, In the Heights) attached as director.
With the book selling more than 2.5 million copies in less than a year, the news of a film adaptation has fans buzzing to see it all play out on screen as Spears’ memoir caused quite a stir since its release in October 2023. Full of her own, never-been-told truths surrounding her highly public court ordered conservatorship back in 2021, upbringing, and past relationships, the book has captured the eyes of many worldwide.
