On May 2, 2023 University of Maryland Global Campus hosted its annual Military And Veteran Networking event at the College Park Marriott Hotel and Conference Center.
The Mi/Vet Net event is a networking opportunity highlighting national, regional, and local support services available to military service members, veterans and their families.
The event was open to all military connected students across the Maryland, DC and Northern Virginia regions.
Over 200 people responded to the event that included 45 vendors made up of employers, veteran service organizations and entrepreneurial resources. At noon Dr Xavier Bruce (Dr. X) presented to a standing room only crowd about the Uplift Leadership Academy, a program encouraging veterans of color to thrive through self-leadership and resilience-building during life transitions.
Students were able to walk away with a copy of the Uplift workbook as part of the presentation. Dr X, a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel with 24 years of service is a Certified Professional Coach, Certified Wellness Coach, and Certified Resilience-Building Leadership Professional Trainer. His passion is to consult veterans so that they become equipped to build resilience in their families, organizations, and communities.
Laura Hatcher Photography was on site and completed over 50 complimentary headshots for participants. Laura is a nationally published event, headshot and branding photographer serving Northern Virginia, whose hobby while active duty, has transformed into a full-time career. Laura owns and operates her photography studio in the heart of historic Old Town, Alexandria.

This event, aimed at an organic approach to networking is held annually. Comments from students attending this year demonstrated the benefit of having the opportunity to speak directly to various organizations, employers, and entrepreneurial resources all under one roof. The complimentary headshots and guest speaker were a welcome addition to an already all-encompassing event.
