Federal agencies are racing to modernize their tech infrastructure, and one of the most overlooked solutions is hiding in plain sight.
SkillStorm is a tech workforce development company that is working to change that by transforming untapped talent, including military veterans and transitioning service members, into high-performing technologists.
“We partner with federal agencies, technology platforms and systems integrators to custom-build and deploy U.S.-based tech teams trained in mission-critical areas like cloud, cybersecurity, and AI,” explained SkillStorm CEO Justin Vianello.
Vianello said SkillStorm’s training model leverages federal programs like SkillBridge, GI Bill, VET TEC, and DoL IT apprenticeships to provide veterans with immersive, fully funded training, industry certifications, and job placement.
“These aren’t just jobs, they’re high-demand, high-impact careers that directly support national security and IT modernization priorities," he said.
Vianello said veterans are often a natural fit for careers in cybersecurity and AI.
“Veterans bring a unique set of strengths that make them especially valuable in fields like cybersecurity, cloud, and AI: mission focus, adaptability, leadership, and often existing security clearances,” he said. “Their experience operating in high-stakes, team-based environments prepares them well for the pace and complexity of modern tech. At SkillStorm, we see veterans not just as strong candidates, but as ideal teammates for government and enterprise clients seeking dependable, skilled talent that’s ready to deliver from day one.”
Vianello said that as of January 2025, there 500,000 open cybersecurity roles in the country.
“Meanwhile, many veterans are underemployed despite having the aptitude and discipline to excel in these roles,” he said.
SkillStorm closes that gap by converting potential into production-ready technologists.
“We train veterans in the exact tech stacks federal agencies use, then deploy them as cohesive, billable-on-day-one teams,” Vianello continued. “It’s a smarter, more sustainable model that aligns workforce development with real-world mission needs.”
Vianello said the nation’s ability to compete, defend, and innovate depends on a skilled tech workforce.
“Yet the traditional education-to-employment pipeline isn’t producing enough talent fast enough. If we fail to close these gaps, we risk delaying critical modernization efforts, increasing security vulnerabilities, and losing economic competitiveness,” he said.
SkillStorm addresses this by scaling new, U.S.-based talent pipelines that are faster, more inclusive, and mission-aligned.
“It's not just about jobs,” he said. “It's about national readiness and resilience.”
