A biopic about the California Ska/Reggae/Punk rockers is in the works from Sony Pictures as Francis Lawrence, whose movies include I Am Legend and The Hunger Games series, has been tapped to direct, Deadline reports. Tasked with writing the script is Ozark’s Chris Mundy.

The Sublime story is one of the most fascinating in music as the band and family members of the late Bradley Nowell expressed their enthusiasm about the project.

“Wow — we can’t believe this is finally happening, and we couldn’t be more honored and excited to have the great Francis Lawrence and Chris Mundy telling our story,” Sublime’s Gaugh and Wilson, along with Bradley’s widow Troy Nowell and son Jake told Deadline.

“We are so grateful to Peter Paterno and Dave Kaplan/Surfdog for their years of persistence and vision in getting this film going and thankful to Sony’s 3000 Pictures and Chernin Entertainment for believing in us and getting it on the big screen. We know Bradley’s talent and spirit will be part of this incredible journey.”

As of writing, no official release date has been announced.
