Ever since Prince passed away in 2016, the musician’s estate has been locked into legal proceedings trying to divide up his assets as the artist did not leave a will.

Now they have a new lawsuit to worry about as the estate recently sued a winery that has been selling “Purple Rain” wine. The winery actually received a trademark for the name in 2019, but Prince’s estate is claiming "likelihood of confusion" and "false suggestion of a connection" should cancel the trademark.

Ohio's L'uva Bella Winery has been selling a “Purple Rain” branded line of wines for a few years now, with a variety of styles available including Tri-Blend, Sangria and the award-winning Concord.

Each bottle is sold for $7.99, according to Ultimate Classic Rock, though that may soon change. The Prince estate recently filed a lawsuit against the vineyard claiming “‘Purple Rain' is Prince's most famous song, album, tour, movie, etc., and there can be no doubt that 'Purple Rain' signifies Prince."

Of course, the winery wants to continue selling their popular wine, so they came up with a defense that confused many. The winery is claiming the wine has no relation to Prince because the artist didn’t drink alcohol. If they lose the wine, maybe they can try something named after ‘Raspberry Beret’ instead.
