This hot mulled apple cider recipe will keep you warm on these cool NorCal nights

Even though we still have hot fall days in Sac, the nights are starting to get cooler and cooler. Try out this hot mulled cider recipe to warm yourself back up and fill your home with delicious apple aroma.

A quick Google search brings up dozens of hot mulled cider recipes, but I chose this one from The Kitchn to share with you because their article mentions California, so I feel like they 'get' us.

Here's what you'll need:

1 Gallon fresh apple cider (no added sugar or spices, and make sure it's cloudy)
Spices (5 cinnamon sticks, 1 piece of fresh ginger, 1 Tbsp cloves; you can also use star anise, black peppercorns, or allspice berries but those are optional)
Orange slices (medium size orange)
Slow cooker

Fill the slow cooker with the apple cider. Place smaller spices in cheesecloth and tie it off to create a sachet, and soak the sachet in the cider while it's warming up. Place orange slices and cinnamon sticks directly in the cider.

Slow cook the cider on LOW for 4 hours. Serve in mugs and use additional orange slices and cinnamon sticks as garnish.
