If you have family in Modesto, OF COURSE you love visiting them. But it's sort of understood here in Sacramento that Modesto isn't exactly...how do I put this...a top getaway destination. This particular activity will make your next trip to Modesto way more exciting, though.

About 30 minutes east of Modesto is a family-run dairy farm called Oakdale Cheese & Specialties that offers tours, tastings, and educates you on the cheesemaking process.

This farm prides itself on their love of cheesemaking that began four generations ago in Holland, where Gouda cheese originated. Their family recipe has even won cheesemaking awards, so this stuff must be amazing.

The grounds at Oakdale Cheese & Specialties also have such a tranquil vibe. There's a giant willow tree that sets the mood, and you can have a picnic there.

See photos, a menu, and learn more about their family farm here.

To plan your trip, put 10040 Valley Home Road, Oakdale, CA in your GPS.
