Meghan Markle and Prince Harry drop bombshells about the royal family during Oprah interview
Last night, CBS aired Oprah's interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. In it, the couple didn't really hold back when speaking out about their time with the royal family. They revealed several bombshells about what allegedly happened behind closed doors. Let's break it down.
There was a big conversation about race. Meghan Markle said that there were "concerns and conversations" amongst the family about "how dark" their son Archie's skin could be. The couple refused to reveal who was having those conversations. Meghan Markle also said that for a reason unknown to her, the royal family went against protocol and declined to give her son a royal title and the security that comes along with it.
The topic of mental health also came up, as Meghan Markle shared that there was a time when things got so bad that she "didn't want to be alive anymore." Even worse, she tried to get mental health services but that "the institution" told her she couldn't get help. Why? Well, because it wouldn't look good for the royal family if she went to get help. If you or someone you know needs this information, here's the number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-8255.
Harry and Meghan also spoke about the toxicity of the press. Harry dropped the big news that there's an "invisible contract" between the royal family and the press. For instance, the more you wine and dine the press, the better positive coverage they give you.
When it comes to Harry's relationship with his family, things aren't so great between him and his father, as well as his brother. Harry said there was no understanding, especially from his father's end, for what he and his family were going through. Meghan Markle even said that the institution was "willing to lie to protect other members of the family," but that they "weren't willing to tell the truth to protect" her and her husband.
As of now, Buckingham Palace hasn't responded to the interview.
