Authorities in Nigeria seized thousands of donkey penises that were about to be sent to Hong Kong, EuroNews reports.

Donkey skins are known to be exported and smuggled into China, where the donkey parts are used in traditional medicines. The illegal trade is causing the donkey population to dwindle in Nigeria, where they are used as work animals.

The charity The Donkey Sanctuary estimates that 4.8 million donkeys are trafficked and killed each year for their skins. Most are used to produce a Chinese remedy called ejiao, which allegedly helps with anemia, low blood cell counts and reproductive problems.
