A big game hunter from South Africa died on Friday while hunting in Zimbabwe when someone with him fired a shot near an elephant, and that same elephant fell on him.
Theunis Botha, 51, was allegedly on a walk with a couple others in the afternoon when he ran into a large herd of elephants. It's reported that three of the elephants started running at the group, and one of the hunters fired a shot and killed one of them. That gunshot in turn caused the wounded animal to collapse on Botha and killed him instantly.
The Telegraph reports that Botha is a highly regarded houndsman who is known for hunting leopard and lions. The Game Hounds Safaris website states that he pioneered European style "Monteria hunts" throughout Africa.
