A city near Chicago is limiting the number of cats and dogs a household can have, and will even issue fines for excessive barking, Fox News reports.

Aurora approved a limit of two cats and dogs per household. The Aurora City Council passed a law that residents will only be allowed to have four companion animals. A companion animal according to the city is, “a dog, cat, ferret, rabbit, guinea pig, hamster or other similar domestic animal commonly kept as pets.”

If residents want to have more animals than allowed, they will have to fill out paperwork from animal control and hope for approval.

Residents who have animals that make excessive noise can now be fined under the new law as well. If a households pet makes excessive noise for more than 15 minutes between 7am and 10pm, residents could receive a $100 fine.
