The Sundown Colorado festival, organized by Mike and Amber Handby, will take place September 11 and is a “party positive” event focused on bringing people together to celebrate mindfulness and wellness in an alcohol-free setting.
“When you have a community of people dancing and singing and having a good time, without that other stuff, it's really self-empowering,” said Mike.
Added Amber, “It's all the things that you love about an incredible party and none of the other parts.”
The festival will feature local artists and vendors, guided meditations and EDM performances. Additionally, there will be a sober bar hosted by Awake, Denver’s first alcohol-free bar, established by husband-wife duo Christy and Bill Wynne in May.
“We hear from people every single day from all around the U.S. and the world saying this needs to be in every single city,” Christy said of their Denver bar, which serves non-alcoholic wines, beers and spirits and donates 20% of its profits to charity.
“We really need to push for this normalization of not drinking,” she continued. “We really wanted to provide a space where we could have sophisticated drinks, beautiful, actually healthy drinks, and just make it a high level of sophistication.”
Sundown Colorado is just one of the shows in a series of alcohol-free concerts planned by Mike and Amber Handby. The couple has plans for more shows as part of their alcohol-free concert series, Secret Dance Addiction.
