When guitar legend Eddie Van Halen passed away earlier this month, the tributes quickly began coming in. Many fellow musicians, and even some talented fans, shared their own versions of some of Van Halen’s greatest hits. Now, the latest tribute to go viral may also be the strangest as the fan recreated ‘Eruption’ using two stylophones.
The video was shared by Youtuber MaroMaro1337, whose channel has a number of videos recreating classic rock songs using the stylophone. The person who made the video called it “one of the weirdest tributes” to Eddie Van Halen,” but assured viewers it was done in honor of the rock legend. “I did this because nobody else would do it on this instrument, and I think that it's somewhat a breakthrough to play this piece on the Stylophone,” said the creator.
While no one would expect to hear ‘Eruption’ on anything but a guitar, even the player had trouble matching Van Halen’s sound on the Stylophone. “The last parts are a bit sloppy, but seriously, it couldn't be done better,” the creator said. It may not be the same, but it definitely would have made Eddie Van Halen proud.
