Last month, a Texas state trooper picked up a hitchhiking owl near Van Horn. And just a couple of days ago, anotherstate trooper was giving an elderly couple a ride home when he noticed an injured owl alongside State Highway 118 in Terlingua.
To “protect and serve,” is the duty of any good law enforcement official, so the trooper loaded the injured owl into his car in order to bring it to safety.
According to Newswest 9, the trooper nicknamed the owl “Walker,” in honor of Walker, Texas Ranger, and also because the owl attempted to walk away when the trooper approached him.
DPS said that Walker was taken to Midland for further evaluation before making his way to El Paso for rehabilitation.
