Everyone has at least one dish they can successfully make in the kitchen without those that eat it getting sick. However, for some their culinary talents end there. Of course most pick up whatever cooking skills they have as they go through life out of necessity, which makes it even more impressive that 19-year-old Preston Nguyen was just named the youngest World Food Champion in the competition’s history.

Arlington native Preston Nguyen is an aspiring chef that took on nine other competitors in the final round of the World Food Championships over the weekend. The contest is the world’s largest food sport competition, and the winner goes home with a $100,000 prize. According to Dallas Morning News, Nguyen will be coming home with the title after his dish of Fried Quail Lollipops with Hot Honey Glaze, Southern Quail and Dumplings, Deviled Quail Eggs, Carolina Boiled Peanut Caviar, Hoppin John Rice, and Good “Thyme” Cornbread Cake with Peach Butter won the final round.

“He rocks. He came into my place with a hunger to learn about not just food but the industry You should have seen him handle a 300-person lunch in a few hours,” said Aziz Kobty, the owner of Prince Lebanese Grill, where Nguyen works. Hopefully continuing to feed DFW is in the young chef’s future.
