There are plenty of cars that have made appearances in movies and television series that have reached icon status. Cars like the General Lee, the A-Team van and K.I.T.T. are beloved by many; However, arguably the most popular of them all is the DeLorean used in 1985 film ‘Back To The Future.’ Now, the time traveling car has been added to the National Historic Vehicle Registers list of significant automobiles, and will now be listed in the library of congress.
The National Historic Vehicle Register of significant automobiles is maintained by the Hagerty Drivers Foundation in partnership with the Library of Congress. The list currently includes 29 cars, such as the 1968 Ford Mustang from ‘Bullitt’ and the 1985 Modena Spyder Ferrari replica from ‘Ferris Beuller's Day Off.’ Now, the DeLorean from the first film in the ‘Back To The Future’ trilogy will be included as well.
According to Fox News, three DeLorean’s were used in the franchise, but only one, known as the “hero car,” will be included on the significant car list. The “hero car” is owned by Universal and is on permanent display at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. Now, the ‘Back To The Future’ DeLorean will forever have a place in history.
