Since the trade of Luka Doncic, Mavs fans across North Texas have been worried about a potential move of the team to Las Vegas.
If the city of Irving gets its way, the Mavs would be leaving Dallas but won't be going very far.
The Irving City Council recently voted to initiate a rezoning application that could potentially be the first step in constructing a new arena for the Mavericks.
According to the Dallas Morning News, the zoning changes would create a high-intensity mixed use area that in part would be earmarked for "an arena with a minimum of 15,000 seats and/or an indoor theater with a minimum of 4,000 seats."
The approved zoning changes apply to a 182-acre tract of land that is 99% owned by an entity connected to Las Vegas Sands Corp, whose majority shareholder is Miriam Adelson, the largest shareholder of the Mavericks.
The land is near State Highway 114 and Loop 12, across 114 from the former site of Texas Stadium.
