Some of the greatest summer memories come from hanging out at the pool. However, despite record high temperatures this year, many aren’t able to get the pool time they so greatly desire. A lifeguard shortage has affected many pools throughout the country, and now Richardson has decided to close the Heights Family Aquatic Center due to the shortage.
With a number of pools already limiting hours this summer due to the lifeguard shortage, options in the metroplex are limited. Sadly, now one of the more popular pools in the area is taking things a step further, closing for the rest of summer. The city of Richardson has decided to shut down the Heights Family Aquatic Center, claiming the pool needs three times as many lifeguards to operate compared to the other aquatic facilities in Richardson.

According to CBS DFW, Richardson attempted to attract lifeguards with increased pay and rewards for referrals, but it wasn’t enough to fill their staff. Luckily, four other Richardson pools will remain open six days a week. Hopefully the lifeguard shortage issue is resolved before the end of summer.
