Any time a band loses their lead singer; most fans assume the group is doomed. That is, unless, of course Sammy Hagar decides to join the band as a replacement. The Red Rocker famously replaced David Lee Roth as the lead singer of Van Halen, and according to Hagar; multiple bands asked him to join after. Now, Hagar has revealed yet another band that asked him to join their group, claiming DFW-based Pantera once asked him to lead their band.
Over the years, Sammy Hagar has revealed a number of bands that have asked him to join their group, such as; Motley Crue, Velvet Revolver and Aerosmith. Now, during a recent interview, Hagar added to the list, claiming Pantera's manager approached him to join the group to replace Phil Anselmo. "Pantera wanted me to be the lead singer of their band. He asked me, 'Would you be interested?' And I said, 'No, not after [leaving] Van Halen [in 1996]. I'm not gonna join another band, especially covering for somebody else.'"
According to Blabbermouth, Hagar didn't say when the band asked him to join, but many fans believe it must have been in the late 90s or early 2000s. While some were disappointed they never got to see Hagar in Pantera, others thought the singer wasn't a fit. Maybe Hagar will cover a Pantera song to prove them wrong.
