Summer is officially underway, as temperatures continue to rise in Texas. Of course, things will only get hotter over the next few months, and air conditioning will be pumping throughout the Lone Star state. Now, with temperatures approaching 100 degrees this week, ERCOT is projecting record electricity demand throughout Texas.

ERCOT, the company that operates the Texas’ power grid, recently announced they are expecting record-breaking electricity demand over the next four days. According to Dallas Morning News, ERCOT is projecting daily peaks in electricity demand above 75,000 megawatts. That would break the previous record of 74,820 megawatts, set in August 2019.

Luckily, ERCOT does not expect any brownouts or calls for Texans to reduce electricity use. “The grid is performing as expected, with sufficient power generation to meet demand this summer,” said Public Utility Commission Chairman Peter Lake. Hopefully Texans can stay cool this week even with these record numbers.
