Duran Duran are getting ready to spice up your Halloween with a brand new album of cover songs and originals inspired by the spookiest season of all.

Scheduled for release on October 27, Duran Duran's 16th album, Danse Macabre, will feature 13 (eep!) tracks -- three new songs, as well as newly recorded faves, and six cover songs -- and also includes guitarist Andy Taylor, former guitarist Warren Cuccurullo, frequent collaborator Nile Rodgers, and the return of their 2015 Paper Gods producer and co-writer, Mr. Hudson.
Along with the announcement, the band has also offered up the title track "Danse Macabre" as the first single.
As far as covers go, the band made some incredible, Halloween-themed choices: Talking Heads‘ “Psycho Killer” featuring Måneskin‘s Victoria De Angelis, The Rolling Stones’ “Paint It Black,” Siouxsie and the Banshees‘ “Spellbound,” The Specials' “Ghost Town,” Billie Eilish‘s “Bury a Friend” and their own take on Rick James‘ “Super Freak” on “Super Lonely Freak.”
Keyboardist Nick Rhodes explains how the project was inspired by a Halloween show the band played in Las Vegas in 2022 saying, “We had decided to seize the moment to create a unique, special event—the temptation of using glorious gothic visuals set to a dark soundtrack of horror and humor was simply irresistible... That evening inspired us to explore further and to make an album, using Halloween as the key theme."
“After all these years, 'Danse Macabre' offers an interesting insight into the personality of the band,” bassist John Taylor adds. “The music packs a real punch.” Drummer Roger Taylor agrees saying, “I hope you take a journey with us through the darker side of our inspirations into where we’re at in 2023. Maybe, you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of how Duran Duran got to this moment in time.”
