As people use more water while sheltering in place due to COVID-19, water conservation rebates have become increasingly popular in an effort to make water usage more efficient.

There was a temporary drop off in water conservation projects when the pandemic first began because contractors and landscapers were not working, but that has now reversed.

"A couple months ago, the restrictions changed, and we’ve seen an uptick in the amount of people who are calling us,” said Ashley Shannon with Santa Clara Valley Water.

Valley Water, the largest water supplier in Santa Clara County, has made all of their rebate programs available once again.

“This is a really good time,” Shannon said. “People are home. They have a little more time to do some improvements on their home, and they’re probably more aware of how much water they’re using.”

Rebates are available for irrigation and gray water systems.
