A South Bay teen has launched his own baking non-profit to raise money for those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Jonathan Dinh, a rising senior at Cupertino High School, runs Cheffin for Charity where he sells baked goods to different organizations each month.
“When the coronavirus started, I found myself baking every single day. Obviously I can’t eat everything by myself,” Dinh said. “I really wanted to find a way to do my part during all of this.”
Over the last few months he’s been able to raise more than $2,500 for groups like the COVID-19 Solidarity Respond Fund, No Kid Hungry California, the NAACP and Save the Children.
Currently, he’s only making deliveries in the South Bay. His goal is to reach even more communities.
“Either Sunday or Monday I post the menu,” he explained. “They can message me through Instagram or Facebook with whatever they want for that week. I get your address, payment and then drive to your doorstep so everything stays contactless.”
Dinh said it’s been enlightening to see young people step up in times of crisis. He hopes more people his age will use their talents to do some good.
“If they’re able to find a way to make what they would be doing anyway into something that can have a a large scale impact,” he said.
