(KCBS Radio) — The Santa Clara County coroner has identified the Stanford student who was found dead on campus on Jan. 17 as 19-year-old Eitan Weiner, the son of a professor and vice president at the university.
Weiner was the son of Stanford history professor Amir Weiner and Julia Erwin-Weiner, a Stanford associate vice president for medical center development.
He was planning on following in his father’s footsteps and majoring in history.
“He was incredibly well read and deeply interested in history, politics and current events,” Brubaker-Cole said. “He also had a passion for soccer and hip-hop and rap music, including their history and impact on society and culture.”
The Palo Alto Fire Department responded first to reports of an unresponsive man at the Stanford campus at about 10:21 a.m. Friday. Weiner was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office says there were no signs of foul play but coroners are still working to determine the cause of death.
“When someone passes away so young and full of potential and plans, I know we all wonder how this could happen,” wrote Brubaker-Cole. “At this point, we believe Eitan had every intention to be with us for many years to come.”
A private funeral will be held on Wednesday, followed by a public memorial beginning at 12:30 p.m. Friday in the Tresidder Oak Lounge on the Stanford campus.
