
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – KCBS Radio has been honored with seven prestigious Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for our coverage in 2022.

This year's winning entries include the station's submissions for Breaking News Coverage, Continuing Coverage, Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Excellence in Writing, News Series, Newscast and Sports Reporting.
The annual awards, which honor "outstanding achievements in electronic journalism," are presented to news organizations by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA). KCBS Radio's entries competed in a group of radio stations in large markets across California, Guam, Nevada and Hawaii.

Breaking News Coverage: Democracy, Attacked — Paul Pelosi was brutally attacked by an intruder in his Pacific Heights home on Oct. 28, 2022. KCBS Radio covered the story from the initial assault to the eventual arraignment of suspect David DePape.
Continuing Coverage: Another Health Crisis Emerges — In early May 2022, cases of mpox — previously known as monkeypox — began popping up across the United States. San Francisco saw a large increase in the viral disease. KCBS Radio diligently covered the outbreak and the response from city officials to contain and prevent the spread.
Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: Queer Anxiety — As part of KCBS Radio's "I'm Listening" series, colleagues Matt Pitman and Mary Hughes discussed their feelings as members of the queer community amid the mpox outbreak, disruptive court decisions and a spate of targeted harassment.
Excellence in Writing: Baseball Rules, and Life — As part of KCBS Radio's "I'm Listening" series, reporter Kris Ankarlo shared the story of how a baseball player's attempted suicide led to a second life as a mental health advocate.
News Series: Blurred Lines: When Does 'Tough' Become Abuse? — Teri McKeever, former head coach of Cal's women's swimming team, was accused of bullying and abuse by 19 current and former students, sparking a conversation about when tough coaching goes too far. As part of KCBS Radio's "I'm Listening" series, Keith Menconi and Holly Quan led the discussion with members of the sports world.
Newscast: The Murrow awards recognized Patti Reising, Bret Burkhart, Doug Sovern and the team for coverage during the KCBS Radio Afternoon News on July 8, 2022.
Sports Reporting: A Player Chooses Life — As part of KCBS Radio's "I'm Listening" series, reporter Kris Ankarlo shared the story of Drew Robinson — a former major league baseball player who found his way through the depths of depression and despair, and now works with the Giants to advocate for mental health.
