A 12-year-old member of the member of the national squash team from Santa Clara claims she was racially profiled after being forced by Air Canada to remove her head scarf at San Francisco International Airport on August 1.

Fatima Abdelrahman is currently ranked the fifth best squash player in the U.S. for her age group and the first to compete on the U.S. National Team in a hijab.

“I don’t want this to happen to anyone again, or to me again, or, in fact, anyone who’s wearing any type of religious head piece at all,” Fatima said. “It’s just unfair and it’s frustrating and it’s humiliating.”

According to the Mercury News, officials say they needed to verify Fatima's identity with her passport picture, which had been taken before she started wearing the hijab at age 11.

Fatima had already passed through security without being forced to remove the head covering, according to her sister

The event has since sparked outrage online, even inciting a response from Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.)

This is unacceptable! Can’t imagine how traumatic this must be for her and her parents. In solidarity little sis ✊-- https://t.co/fkHanKU0wD

Fatima's family is hoping for a public apology from Air Canada.
