A growing wildland fire had forced evacuations in Solano County, but crews appeared to be making progress Sunday as mandatory residential evacuation orders were lifted.
The fire started at Quail Canyon Rd. southwest of Winters and north of Vacaville on Saturday.
The Quail Fire had grown to 1,837 acres and was 40% contained Sunday afternoon. Evacuations impacted all of Quail Canyon Rd., Pleasants Valley Rd. north to Hwy. 128 and Digger Pine Ridge Rd., but were later lifted. CAL FIRE said crews were hampered by windy conditions overnight. Three structures have been damaged and 100 remain threatened.
There are more than 600 personnel working the fire and no injuries have been reported.
In Contra Costa County, firefighters were at the scene of a vegetation fire called the Willow Fire on Hwy. 4 at Willow Pass Rd. near Concord. CAL FIRE said the fire grew to 100 acres and is now fully contained. Crews used air tankers and dropped fire retardant.
There are no reports of any damage in the either the Gulch or Willow Fires.
