A fugitive murder suspect who'd already escaped from a Monterey County jail eluded capture after police tried apprehending him at a motel Tuesday.
Monterey County sheriff's deputies surrounded a Motel Six in Marina after an employee said 20-year-old Jonathan Salazar was there. A standoff ensued that lasted for almost eight hours.
But when officers raided Salazaar's room around 7 p.m., he was not there.
The sheriff's office believes that Salazar had fled before officers even arrived at the motel, according to KPIX.
It's unknown if anyone else was with Salazar.
