There will be no toll for drivers using San Francisco's popular crooked street.
A plan to impose an unprecedented reservation and fee system on Lombard Street was vetoed by Governor Gavin Newsom.
In rejecting the bill, Newsom said he wants to keep the street accessible to everyone regardless of ability to pay.
Neighbors of the Russian Hill landmark have complained of gridlock, noise and litter from the tourists who wind down the 600-foot-long stretch.
During the summer, up to 6,000 people visit Lombard Street, according to San Francisco tourism officials, which creates lines of cars that stretch for blocks.
