Some California students and community groups are threatening to sue the University of California system unless it drops the SAT and ACT exams from admissions requirements
Such tests favor wealthy, white students, the critics contend.
In a letter issued Tuesday by lawyers, the Compton Unified School District, three students and multiple other organizations say they’re giving the UC system 10 business days to comply with their request to drop the requirement.
UC officials did not respond to the letter, but said they were already reviewing the use of standardized tests.
The company behind the ACT denied claims of bias.
In the wake of the widespread college admissions scandal, dozens of universities are moving away from entrance exams as the fairness of the tests has come under scrutiny.
